Dry eye is progressively omnipresent in eye care practices and can have an effect on vision, comfort, contact lens wear, digital devise use and overall quality of life. The Tear Film Ocular Society TFOS has recently July 2017 released its second extensive Dry Eye Workshop DEWS report TFOS DEWS II which is comprised of a global literature review on the topic of dry eye and associated features. This presentation will bring forth some of the highlights of the report including definition, epidemiology, classification as well as evidence-based diagnostic and management approaches. Emerging information on the role of sex, gender and hormones as well as the understanding of pain and sensation are new elements to consider in the management of dry eye in clinical practice. The purpose of this lecture is to highlight clinical features of the report and how to integrate them in clinical practice.
